Things to do in Southern California

Barb SolemArt Retreat by the Beach, General Information, things to do

Southern California is a fun place to visit with loads of fun things to do, sights to see and places to eat. If you are visiting here during our retreat and would like some suggestions about how to spend your free time before and after your classes, here are a few of our suggestions.

Horn blower Cruises – Hornblower offers a unique blend of the finest dining, dancing, entertainment and service found on the water.
Disneyland – Explore 7 exciting lands that bring to life Disney and Pixar stories and characters through amazing attractions, entertainment and dining!
Southcoast Plaza – Renowned as a major global shopping destination and home to more than 250 boutiques, restaurants and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.
Buena Park Historic District Tours – Travel back in time by touring the city’s Historic District featuring several preserved buildings: The Whitaker-Jaynes House serves as the city’s local history museum; the Bacon House is one the oldest surviving structures in the area; the Tice House, a charming cage and the Stage Stop Hotel, is currently home to the only California Welcome Center in Orange County.
Fullerton Arboretum – The Fullerton Arboretum is your passport to the world of plants. Inhale the fragrances of the Mediterranean, feel the cool shade of the redwood forest, delight in the glorious fall color of the northeastern United States, hear the rustle of the palm trees, take a break in a desert oasis, laugh at the funny forms of succulents, and breathe in the perfume of old fashioned roses.
Catalina Island – Catalina Island is a picture perfect paradise and a world apart from the hustle and bustle of the mainland just 22 miles away.
Crystal Cove State Park – Crystal Cove State Park / Beach, located in Newport Beach, California, is best known for its rustic setting that stands in contrast to pristine, new homes and immaculate greens of the Pelican Hills Golf Club overlooking this wilderness oasis.
Amtrak Pacific Surfline Coastal Day Trips – Amtrak Pacific Surfliner  trains run along the coast of Southern California from  San Luis Obispo to San Diego. Riding the Surfliner gives you an opportunity to see many scenic areas of the coast not be viewed from automobiles.

If anyone wants to weigh-in on this post and add their own suggestions, please feel free to do so! We’d love to hear from you!
