Robert Lopez | Surf and Turf Pendant | Saturday, February 9 and Sunday, February 10, 2019 | 9 am until 4 pm
$330.00
Two day workshop to include:
Alternative materials and Movement. Getting primitive; students will use Stingray Skin and Elk Horn as an alternative material to add interest to this primeval pendant. We will be attaching the elk horn with a cross post attached to silver cap to allow for movement.
Tabs. The top portion is set with several different components fitting over one another and set with tabs that lock the pieces together.
Argentium Sterling Silver: We will cover the benefits of working with tarnish resistant Argentium Sterling Silver. Argentium is a silver alloy that is whiter and brighter than traditional sterling and can be annealed softer and hardened beyond traditional sterling. We will be fusing Argentium silver granules, sheet and wire; enabling us to cut back on solder joints.
Bail. The bail will be constructed from fused wire and granules that will be hammered and shaped to make a unique bail.
Bezel setting. I will also instruct students on the process and benefits of constructing a thick wall bezel with texture to set the Elk Horn. Robert will offer several stains for the horn to add color or a patina.
Granulation. Melting silver into balls used to bridge gaps with fusing techniques.
Hammer texture. I will offer several different hammers to texture the silver with to add a distressed look.
Patina & Polishing. Students will have the option of adding a colorful patina and a bright shiny polish to the silver.
The workshop will also cover texturing, soldering, patina, forming, filing, sanding, shaping and finishing. This project will allow you to look at different material as a possibility for creating primitive or indigenous works of art.
