UPDATED: Tonya Davidson| Mountains, Valleys, Gold Oh My!  Magically Textured Reticulated Silver with Granulated Silver and High Karat Gold Embellishments | Saturday, February 8th, 2020 | 9:00 am until 4:30 pm and 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm

Create a richly textured ring or pendant in this intermediate to advanced technique class.  First we’ll learn how to create the magically textured sheet of silver through a technique called reticulation.  Then I’ll guide you on creating just the right organic or geometric shape that best suits the sheet’s character.  Then we will add embellishments with real granulation (no solder) the way the Etruscans did 5000 years ago!

You’ll also learn:

-how to control the heat of a torch to get results from the metal and create patterns in the reticulated silver.  You’ll get to experience two torches you might not have ever tried, to expand your knowledge.  Reticulated silver is 80/20 silver and copper (looks like silver).  When heated the copper melts in the middle, like an oreo, causing wrinkles in the surface through torch deformation.

-how to eutectic solder (not your typical additive solder) to fuse granules to the surface (yes, no solder!)

-to make granules and the glue needed to fuse them to the surface the way the Etruscans did 5000 years ago

-about enriching the surface of silver to enable fusing

-how to frame your shapes and trouble shoot when the metal doesn’t allow a straightforward frame

-new soldering setups and when to use which soldering surface

You will leave with an understanding of many ways to work with silver and incorporate a little gold.   Adding golds means adding profit.  Not to mention I always pack the class with handy bench tips and tricks.

Each piece will be unique and an individual expression of your artistry. To give you the biggest bang for your buck, class will start online Jan 7th in a dedicated Facebook group.  Worried that by the time you get set up to start working, you will have forgetten a step?  No worries! We have our very own Facebook group for ongoing mentorship in further developing your work.  This is an extra perk when taking my classes.  Can’t wait to have you in class!
